trees don't make a forest
recently one of my friends told me that a girl randomly added him on fb. he had no idea who she was, and tried as he might, he didn't manage to figure anything out. he saw on her profile that she was in the same school as him.
he accepted the friend request and just left it. after some time, she messaged him and then after some questions and arduous memory work, he found out who she was.
he had seen her in his revision lecture some months back, just 2 classes. back then he thought she was different from other girls and i guess that made her special in his eyes. he told his friends but none of them felt the same way.
who would've known that she had noticed him too? in fact he says that it seems she has noticed him even before that as she knew who his friends were and said she sees him around quite often. one day she came across his fb account and (bravely?) added him.
holy shit, i told him. what are the chances of that happening? that's like hitting the jackpot twice! once when she noticed him too, and again when she added him. yeah, he said, but it seems that she's not really who he imagined her to be (duh!).
when he first saw her, he thought she was a cool girl, definitely different from all the hordes of lame girls out there. but after chatting with her for a bit, he realised that she wasn't quite as cool as she appeared, and besides, they couldn't really click.
he said she seems quite persistent though, so i told him to just try it out and see what happens. yeah, that's what his other friends said too, he told me. after all such things don't just happen to anyone.
the problem was that all the weight of these expectations made it hard for him to 'get in the flow' and everything feels forced and unnatural. the whole thing just makes him feel uncomfortable.
well shit, who would've thought that such a perfect dream scenario could also bring about its own unique set of problems? i guess it's not so easy to see but it's true that all good things come at a price.
